The lane also runs between city hall and the MacBride Museum. Council voted at its meeting Monday to bring forward the required bylaw to officially close the laneway. First reading of the bylaw is scheduled to be voted on at next Monday’s meeting. Official closure is required to accommodate future renovations and new construction to city hall as part of the city’s building consolidation project. The consolidation project included, among other things, constructing the new Operations Building, the new fire hall, and plans to reconstruct city hall at a cost currently estimated at $24.6 million. City hall will become the new services building to accommodate a number of departments currently located elsewhere. ....
