WAXHAW, N.C. (AP) The driver of a horse-drawn carriage in North Carolina is being credited with helping steer the horse and passengers to safety after a dog repeatedly attacked the animal as it was pulling the cart.
Bridger Medlin, the owner of the carriage ride company, said in a Facebook post Sunday that the driver tried to fend off the dog as it bit the horse on its face and legs Saturday in a Waxhaw park.
In a video of the encounter that was posted online, children onboard could be heard screaming as the dog lunged at the horse. The video showed the horse eventually kicking the dog away, before the dog collapses and someone holds it on the ground. ....

For 14 months, Seven Atsilaâs life was a nightmare.Â
The then 15-year-old Waxhaw resident, who was assigned female at birth but now identifies as two-spirit, an indigenous term used to describe someone who has both masculine and feminine traits, had been struggling with his gender identity along with other behavioral issues.Â
His parents thought it would be helpful to enroll Atsila at Solstice East, a treatment center outside of Asheville for adolescent girls struggling with everything from ADHD and academic issues to substance abuse and addiction, in 2015.Â
This is where Atsila, now 22, says he was forced to undergo conversion therapy while he continued to struggle with his gender identity. ....

Two bench warrants are active for the arrest of a Cape Coral man who allegedly dove into the Bass Pro Shops freshwater fish tank at Gulf Coast Town Center in 2020.
The Lee County Sheriff s Office has been searching for Daniel A. Armendariz, 28, on the warrants since he failed to show for court in January and February.
He is believed to be the man who jumped into the tank May 10, according to a Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers Facebook post. He was charged with trespassing at Bass Pro Shops.
Armendariz was arrested nearly two months later on the charge after the Sheriff’s Office received a call for service stating Armendariz was on his way to the Days Inn on South Cleveland Avenue threatening to shoot someone. ....
