Johns Hopkins University unveiled a set of draft recommendations Monday that will lay the foundation for the next iteration of the JHU Roadmap on Diversity and Inclusion, which since 2016 has served as the university s guiding document and accountability framework for advancing equity and inclusion.
The 65 recommendations cover a range of topics faculty diversity and staff advancement, community and alumni engagement, student support and success, training and development, and institutional accountability. They were developed by the 43-member Roadmap 2020 Task Force and seven working groups made up of 162 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners. ....

The Murphy administration on May 19 announced a collaboration with University Hospital in Newark and L+M Development Partners, Type A Projects and MSquared under the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency’s (NJHMFA) Hospital Partnership Subsidy Program to provide vital affordable and supportive housing – including homes for frequent users of emergency services – in their host communities.
This project will provide 78 affordable rental apartments that will serve low- and moderate-income households to promote economic diversity in the Fairmount neighborhood of Newark.
Sixteen supportive housing units will be reserved for homeless individuals and families, and these will be supported by project-based rental vouchers provided through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ Housing Choice Voucher Program. All supportive units will be paired wit ....

Lawmakers advance bill to end public health emergency, preserve gov's powers

Lawmakers on May 18 continued to move ahead a bill that would let Gov. Phil Murphy’s COVID-19 public health order expire next month, but keep in place many of the broad powers he’s employed these past 14 months to contain the pandemic.
The proposed Assembly Bill 5777 keeps in place 14 separate executive orders Murphy signed since the onset of the pandemic. It was approved by a 7-3 vote at the Assembly Appropriations Committee on Tuesday, after being introduced at the very meeting.
Murphy announced May 14 that such a bill would move forward and he in turn would lift the public health emergency. The legislation and that agreement have the sign-off from Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, D-19th District, and Senate President Stephen Sweeney, D-3rd District, both the most powerful lawmakers in their respective chambers. ....
