St. Augustine launches rehab of historic Lincolnville church


Jacqueline Bryant, a member of the church for several decades, shared with the crowd how in 1873, the Rev. Richard James established the church where the Willie Galimore Center is today ― a short distance from its current location. The church settled at its current spot in the early 1900s, she said. 
As of this coming June 4, 2021, it will be 148 years of existence, she said.  To God be the glory. Amen.
The $350,000 St. Paul AME rehabilitation project is being funded by the Lincolnville Community Redevelopment Agency s Institutional Rehabilitation Program, according to Jaime Perkins, CRA administrator. 
The Lincolnville CRA is an entity established by the city of St. Augustine to reduce blight and improve the community. With guidance from a steering committee, a portion of property tax revenues in Lincolnville are reinvested into the community through programs outlined in the CRA s redevelopment plan. ....

Where are they now? An update on St. Johns County newsmakers from 2020


Before the end of the summer, a contractor for the city of St. Augustine slowly began moving the city s 100,000-pound Confederate memorial onto a barge bound for Trout Creek Fish Camp. 
It was the culmination of weeks worth of careful effort to prepare the structure. The move sparked protests, including physical and verbal assaults and death threats against the moving team. 
Like other stories in 2020, Confederate memorials made headlines but have been out of the news for awhile. Here are updates on a few 2020 newsmakers in St. Johns County.

Both the city s Confederate memorial and a memorial to Confederate Maj. Gen. William Loring are at Trout Creek Fish Camp. Randy Ringhaver, president of Ring Power Corporation, who founded the fish camp, offered to display the memorials at the location.  ....
