MORRIS In about two weeks, Doreen Sudol will head to JFK airport to pick up Melody, a 1-year-old brown, black and white Malamute. Melody, along with tens of thousands of other dogs, has been rescued from the dog meat trade through a nonprofit organization called No Dogs Left Behind.
The organization rescues dogs from slaughterhouses, dog meat trucks, wet markets and traffickers in China where they’re sent to dog festivals and tortured and killed for meat.
In January, Sudol adopted her first dog through No Dogs Left Behind Lily, a 35-pound Samoyed. Last April, Sudol, who lives on a farm with her three other dogs, as well as alpacas, goats and chickens, came across the website for No Dogs Left Behind, and was immediately interested. ....

For 50 years music enthusiast Basil Brooker has been fronting the Linden Singers of Hawke s Bay choir, but due to illness the conductor s last concert will be in March.
Brooker has terminal cancer and his
last performance will be on March 14, where the Linden Singers will take the stage with the Waiapu Cathedral choir at Waiapu Catherdral in Napier, bringing together two strands of his music career. ....

Former Hong Kong galloper Royal Performer stunned punters by bolting away with the $400,000 Herbie Dyke Stakes, New Zealand s richest weight-for-age race, after a beautiful ride from Jonathan Riddell.
