STARS welcomes new helicopter named after Gantefoer to Melfort

STARS air ambulance welcomed its latest Airbus H145 helicopter named after Melfort resident Rod Gantefoer to the Melfort Hospital Monday.
The aircraft’s registration marks are “C-GFRG,” and the last three letters stand for “Founder Rod Gantefoer.”
“It’s unexpected and an honour,” Gantefoer said.
Gantefoer was instrumental in the development and implementation of STARS in Saskatchewan.
“He got us going,” STARS president and CEO Andrea Robertson said. “We’re forever grateful. We’ve had incredible support here in Saskatchewan.”
Gantefoer also led the fundraising initiative for the Melfort Heliport project. ....

Rock snake at Melfort Hospital pays tribute to healthcare workers

Maggie Puttick, an Educational Associate (EA) at Reynolds Central School in Melfort was looking for a way to pay tribute to healthcare workers. On May 21 the first set of rocks were placed in front of Melfort Hospital by Reynold’s Grade 1 class to construct a rock snake to show gratitude to healthcare workers.
“We were looking for a way to show appreciation to healthcare workers in our area and something that we were able to do within the guidelines for the COVID-19 protocol,” Puttick said. ....

Melfort becoming health care hub in northeast, model for other communities

Melfort has seen its healthcare sector grow exponentially over the past few years.
It began with the Melfort Wellness Centre opening in 2017, and more recently the Heliport that officially was approved for use in November 2020, and looking ahead, the long-awaited CT scanner expected to come to the Melfort Hospital in early 2021.
“It’s kind of making a bit of a hub,” said Melfort MLA Todd Goudy. “And a bit of a model for rural communities like ours.”
Another major purchase in recent years was an digital x-ray machine worth $510,000.
Goudy said the northeast region is really lucky to have what they have in health care. ....
