Burns is a regular at the regatta and known for her artistry. One year she created a raft that looked like the Ripleyâs Aquarium of the Smokies, which she gave to the aquarium rather than float it down the river. Tuesday, May 25, 2021 Col. Jack Jackson SIKESTON One of the most decorated Marine Corps aviators of the Vietnam War will serve as the honored guest and speaker at the Memorial Day ceremony May 31 in Sikeston. Set to begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Sikeston Veterans Park, the honored guest and speaker is Col. Jack Jackson, who is the recipient of 33 air medals, four distinguished flying cross and the Navy commendation for valor. Local veterans from the American Legion VFW along with the Sikeston Veterans Park Committee will participate in the service. Melissa Rhodes will perform the National Anthem and Ethan Bartlett will perform Taps. Sikeston Mayor Greg Turnbo will make a special presentation. After the service, the American Legion Auxiliary will provide lunch for veterans and their families at the Legion Post located on South Kingshighway. In the event of rain, the program will move to the First Christian Church in Sikeston. ....
May 19, 2021 Elvaston, Il- On person was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday in Hancock County. According to Illinois State Police, a 2004 Chevrolet van driven by 36-year-old Joshua Frakes of Elvaston was traveling north on South East Street, about a quarter of a mile south of US-136 in Elvaston. Frakes lost control of the vehicle and overturned it. Frakes was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Melissa Rhodes of Elvaston was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation, and no further information was released. ....
Man dies in Elvaston, Illinois, crash The Hawk Eye ELVASTON, Ill. One man died and a woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash Monday night in Elvaston, Illinois. A report from the Illinois State Patrol says Joshua Frakes, 36, of Elvaston, was driving a 2004 Chevrolet van heading north on South East Street, about one quarter mile south of U.S. 136, at 10:52 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. Frakes was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries at the scene, the report says. An ambulance crew took passenger Melissa Rhodes, 23, of Elvaston, to an area hospital with minor injuries. ....
