Restaurateurs offering nationwide meal kit deliveries are losing thousands of pounds because of courier services failing to deliver the perishable products by the intended target dates. Courier companies have been accused of failing to take responsibility and liability for delays to deliveries, which often lead to restaurateurs having to offer customers refunds out of their own pocket. Vinny Patel, owner of Indian restaurant Doosra in Surbiton, says he has faced regular issues with APC since launching his ‘curry by post’ service during the first national lockdown last year. “The problem with these courier companies is that they’ve never dealt with the delivery of perishables on such a huge scale before,” he says. ....

Sime Darby told Reuters in an email that the scheme was being conducted in collaboration with the Malaysian government to put return-to-work plans in motion in a controlled and safe manner. Stockpiles in the world’s second-largest producer plunged to 1.27 million tonnes last year due to a combination of labour and logistic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and as wet weather conditions caused by La-Nina hurt yield. The council is expecting a moderate recovery in exports and production this year while projecting month-end stocks to trend below 1.5 million tonnes for most parts of the year. ....
