Bakery products have always been a staple in the Asia Pacific region for breakfast and snacking occasions, but the COVID-19 pandemic has boosted the sector’s growth significantly in the past year, primarily driven by the home-baking, flavour innovation and healthier eating trends.
In this episode of the FNA Deep Dive, we take a closer look at the bakery sector in APAC and find out more about the trends driving the industry post-COVID-19, with input from various leading firms in the industry.
Experts have predicted that the global bakery products market will grow some 2.5% from US$507.38bn in 2020 to hit US$574.05bn by 2026. Western regions such as Europe and the United States are still expected to dominate the global market, given the fact that bakery is even more of a staple across all dining occasions there as opposed to in APAC where rice is still the main staple.

Walmart website and start pre-ordering these delectable cookies. Later in the month the cookies will begin showing up in the Walmart cookie aisles before going nationwide at other retailers starting in April 2021.

General Mills Pillsbury brand is debuting a line of Soft Baked Cookies, marking its first product for the ready-to-eat cookie space in its more than 150-year history.
The cookies are made with a blend of butter and shortening, which gives them a soft texture, the company said. They will be available in four varieties Chocolate Chip, Confetti, Sugar with Drizzled Icing and Peanut Butter with Chocolatey Drizzle in packages of 18 cookies.
The Pillsbury Soft Baked Cookies are launching in Walmart stores this month, and will roll out to other retailers nationwide in April. Pillsbury, better known for its refrigerated bake-and-eat cookie, crescent and biscuit doughs, has expanded its reach into the snacks segment and different eating occasions as consumers seek out comforting, indulgent sweets and reconnect with baking.
