How Japandi Design Can Bring Comfort and Simplicity to Your Home

How Japandi Design Can Bring Comfort and Simplicity to Your Home
Japanese and Scandinavian influences come together to produce a look that’s serene, organic, and refined.
A hybrid aesthetic combining the comfort and functionality of Scandinavian design with the simple elegance of Japanese style, the Japandi look is on the rise, regardless of one’s thoughts on the portmanteau.

Religion and spirituality are not only matters of the soul, mind, or heart. They are expressed in artworks, photography, and music as well. Among the titles coming in 2021 are books that celebrate these expressions. In this troubled winter, they promise inspiration, consolation, and connection, from the earth to the heavens. A sampling includes:
Art and Faith: A Theology of Making(Yale, Jan. 5) by painter Makoto Fujimura, with a foreword by biblical scholar N. T. Wright, is drawn from 30 years of making art. According to Yale acquiring editor Jennifer Banks, Fujimura knew from childhood that whenever he painted, “I felt as if an electrical charge were going through me. Every time I created and felt that charge, I was experiencing the Holy Spirit. I now consider what I do in the studio to be theological work as much as aesthetic work. I experience God, my Ma ....

Christianity Today's 2021 Book Awards | Christianity Today

Perhaps, in the decades to come, some enterprising religious historian will study how the coronavirus pandemic of 2020 affected Christian magazine journalism. Fair warning: You won’t find anything terribly eye-opening in CT’s books coverage.
As the editor chiefly responsible for that coverage, I remember feeling a tad sheepish at our morning check-in meetings during those first few locked-down weeks in March and April. Updates from colleagues throbbed with urgency. They were commissioning timely op-eds analyzing the virus in all its theological and sociopolitical complexity. They were chasing down stories about believers manning the medical front lines and churches transitioning to online services. Meanwhile, my own work carried on as though nothing had changed. ....
