Grade 9 student Antoni Klonowski will soon be representing Brandon on an global stage, since he recently secured a first-place finish in the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s 2021 Canadian National Brain Bee.
McMaster University hosted this virtual competition on Saturday, during which Klonowski bested 15 other students in the preliminary round to advance to the finals.

Times has honored, includes quiz bowl savants, budding novelists, future engineers and doctors and championship athletes. Traditionally, the All-Star team is made up of 10 boys and 10 girls, but this year’s class of boys was so strong our judges, retired school counselor Sam Blair and nonprofit leader and former State Board of Education member Mireya Reith, insisted on 11 boys.
