Orlando Police have arrested a 18-year-old man they say was involved in the May 2 murder of Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill’s 16-year-old niece Tavyiah King. Jacarious Jermaine Javonte Simpson is charged with Third Degree Murder and Attempted First Degree Murder with a Firearm.
During an update on the investigation on Monday, Commissioner Hill talked about the impact of gun violence. She said, “A bullet has no name. And when it travels and hits a person, it just does not hit one person to kill one person. It kills many dreams and hopes for those communities in the people that love them.”

The trials of former Minneapolis PD Officers Tou Thao, J Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane were severed from the trial of Derek Chauvin, although the prosecution’s theory of Chauvin’s guilt ended up such that severing them was not appropriate. The evidence that made Chauvin guilty is pretty much the same evidence that should make the other three guilty as well.
None of them had their knee on George Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes.
None of them are charged with Second Degree Murder.
But the factual basis used against Derek Chauvin to convict him of Second Degree Murder is no less applicable to all three.

Former US President Barack Obama has welcomed the verdict of the Jury on Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who killed George Floyd.
Obama in a statement after the verdict said there is a great need to follow through the verdict with concrete reforms that will reduce and ultimately eliminate racial bias in America s criminal justice system.
The former president said while the verdict may have been a necessary step on the road to progress, it was far from a sufficient one.

Black Lives Matter protesters in Minneapolis shouted “all cops are bastards” as they took to the streets to celebrate the conviction of former police officer Derek Chauvin.
Shortly after a Minnesota jury convicted Chauvin for murdering George Floyd, Black Lives Matter protesters celebrated before marching into the streets. As the march began, protesters began shouting, “All cops are bastards,” according to a tweet by independent journalist Brendan Gutenschwager.

A short time later, the group shifted their anger to the Minnesota National Guard troops sent in by Governor Tim Walz to help keep the peace in the aftermath of the Duante Wright shooting and the then-pending verdict in the Chauvin trial.
