ROCKFORD, MI - It’s almost perfect.
Great food, great beer and great service, all surrounded by natural beauty of the White Pine Trail. It’s almost as if Third Nature Brewing Company was built as a set for a Pure Michigan television commercial.
It’s no surprise the brewery with a huge biergarten, multiple fire pits and Igloos was recognized as one top destinations for Michigan’s Best Outdoor Dining in Grand Rapids.
It finished second behind poll winner One Twenty Three Tavern in Grand Rapids and ahead of Brass Ring Brewery in Grand Rapids, which is known for its outdoor shanties.

Texas is currently under a blanket of snow, and peat is still burning in Arctic Russia after historic forest fires last summer, despite temperatures of -50 celsius. There are no two ways about it: our climate is in crisis, and it’s cities, where the majority of the world’s population resides, that will bear the brunt.
By 2050, 1.6bn urban dwellers will be exposed to extreme temperatures, 570 coastal cities are at risk of extreme sea level rise or flooding, and one in four people on Earth will be living in cities where the availability of food will be majorly impacted by climate change. We’re at a crossroads, and either we can continue in this direction or we take action and steer away from this abysmal future.

Igloos have been popping up like mushrooms, shanty towns are being constructed, greenhouses are serving new purposes, and even a yurt or two have arrived in Michigan. These are just a few of the examples of how Michigan restauranteurs have been getting creative with outdoor dining spaces.
Restaurants have been shut down for indoor dining for the second time in 2020, this time since December 7. Restrictions will remain on indoor dining until January 15, per the current order from the Michigan Health Department.
