DSWD closely coordinating with Land Bank for cash cards of UCT and SocPen beneficiaries

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said Thursday, Feb.11 that it has started closely coordinating with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) for the issuance of cash cards for the recipients of the unconditional cash transfer (UCT) and the Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens to ensure the immediate delivery of their entitled social welfare benefits amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

DSWD Spokesperson Irene Dumlao apologized for the delayed payout of the UCT to senior citizens, explaining that they have to validate first the master list of beneficiaries because distributing such benefit, which is provided under the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Act (TRAIN). ....

The committee tabled its report on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment has recommended that the proposed amendment to the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 include provisions for counselling services. It also suggests digital and financial literacy services for seniors.
In its report on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (Amendment) Bill, 2019 tabled in Parliament on Friday, the committee commended the Bill for consideration and enactment, while giving some recommendations. ....

HAVERI: The assistant commissioner of Savanur sub-division, Haveri district, recently cancelled two gift deeds and ordered two persons to return properties as they breached the promise of looking after their elderly parents.
Citing the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, Annapurna Mudakammanavar used her judicial powers to pass the orders and said both beneficiaries had violated the purpose of getting the properties and had refused to take care of their elderly mothers in Hanagal taluk.
A 67-year-old senior citizen from Chikkamashihosur village, had appealed to the KAS officer to cancel a three-acre land gift deed given to her son. According to sources, she was suffering from age-related health complications and her son refused to be by her side. The assistant commissioner ordered revocation of the gift deed after hearing both parties. ....
