Last summer, Karly Cacicedo was not excited to start her senior year of high school. When it first began, I thought my senior year would be a total trainwreck, the Brighton High School student said. I wouldn t have the senior year everyone else had. The biggest disappointment was her pompon season getting delayed and performances getting canceled. When she found out her team couldn t travel to Florida for the national championship, she almost quit the team. But now that her senior year is almost over, Cacicedo is happy with how the year turned out. She gets to have a prom and a graduation ceremony - with modifications - and her pompon team placed second in the virtual national championship this spring. ....
May 1, 2021 By Jessica Mathews/[email protected] Following an action-filled week of collecting donations, reward and immunity challenges, and 16 calling Howell High School home, the school s annual Senior Survivor fundraiser came to a close Friday. During the week-long fundraiser, the students raised an incredible $220,427.74. The money raised will help build the Senior Survivor Playground at Genoa Township Park, which will be an inclusive playground that allows people of all abilities to play together. In addition, the playground will consist of natural elements and textures such as logs, stumps, ropes, boulders, and plants. Natural playgrounds are said to present opportunities for individual exploration and discovery as well as collaborative play. A press release states that while playing at Senior Survivor Playground, children will develop physical, imagination, and problem-solving skills through self-directed play. ....
April 22, 2021 Two Brighton High School seniors have organized an outdoor charity concert in downtown Brighton. The concert will take place at 6pm this Friday at the Mill Pond Amphitheater and feature the Brighton High School Acapella singing groups, student jazz bands, and other musical acts. The event is being organized by Megan Foster and Olivia Gregg, two seniors who are part of the high schoolâs annual Senior Survivor event. During Senior Survivor Week, teams of students spend a week at the high school and raise money for local charities. Last yearâs event had to be canceled due to COVID-19. Organizers say this year, Brighton High School is moving forward with the week-long event but with careful protocols in place. ....
