Apprenticeship schemes have fast become a route to future employment for thousands of school leavers, as the Scottish Government’s Youth Employment Strategy set out an ambition to reach 30,000 apprenticeship starts annually.
Openreach judge Anna Steven said: “It’s been fantastic to be associated with the first Edinburgh Apprenticeship Awards.
We’ve been hugely impressed by the high calibre of entrants. As one of Scotland’s biggest employers of apprentices, we know what a massive contribution they make. Banned director who continued running firms gets suspended jail term

A builder has been given a suspended prison sentence for managing three firms while banned.
Michael Ashton was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail, suspended for a year, because he managed Staffordshire-based firms MA Joinery Limited, CNT Joinery Ltd, and MA Partitioning, Ceilings & Joinery Ltd while banned from serving as a company director.
In October 2013, the Stoke-on-Trent resident was disqualified from acting as a director for five years after failing to maintain adequate accounts for a firm called CNT Ancillaries Ltd.
But in May 2015, the Insolvency Service uncovered he carried on acting as a director in breach of his ban, when a different firm he ran – MA Partitioning, Ceilings & Joinery Limited – went into liquidation. Ashton received another disqualification, for 10 years, for the offences in May 2017. ....
