Delhi’s overall load of particulate matter (PM), a major pollutant, is lower than that of China’s Beijing.
Emissions from large-scale industries and combustion of fossil fuels dominate Beijing’s air.
PM with high chlorine content has the ability to take up more water.
New Delhi: Air pollution in Delhi is a year-round problem. The quality of air, however, turns extremely noxious during winter every year, with dense fog engulfing the city and drastically reducing visibility. The atmospheric science community has found a clear link between pollution burden and fog. Presence of pollutants accentuates foggy condition.
