New Covid-19 infections and the death toll have increased significantly, yet the vaccination exercise continues at a snail’s pace. Malaysia is reporting more than 6,000 new cases daily now, the highest in Southeast Asia, and neck and neck with the Philippines at the top of the chart. Yet, it has also achieved among the lowest rate of vaccination. World Health Organisation tracking data shows that as of last Friday, only 931,000 people have been fully vaccinated, accounting for just 2.9% of the population. In contrast, 1.44 million people in Singapore have received both doses of the vaccine, which is 25.3% of the republic’s population, more than nine times ahead of Malaysia.

PETALING JAYA: A consultant paediatrician and neonatologist has come forward to say that it is not him on a viral audio clip claiming potential high rates of Covid-19 infections after Hari Raya. Datuk Dr Musa Mohd Nordin, who is based in KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital, took to Twitter to say that his voice was not on the audio clip that had gone viral on social media. “The viral audio on Whatsapp is NOT me. I do NOT do anonymous stuff. All my writings, youtubes etc manifests my name or LOGO (sic), ” he said in a Twitter post on Friday (May 7).
