The Islamabad High Court has imposed a Rs0.5 million fine on the National Database and Registration Authority for blocking the CNIC of a woman over a paternity dispute.
The authority is not vested with the power and jurisdiction to, directly or indirectly, adjudicate upon or interfere with intricate contested family disputes, including paternity, the court said. NADRA s proceedings have been declared illegal, void, without lawful authority and jurisdiction. ....

KARACHI: Trade unions and labour leaders have urged both the federal and Sindh governments to avoid politicising the EOBI and Workers Welfare Fund issues and to bring some massive reforms to the service delivery of these social security institutions for the universalisation of the social security services in Pakistan.
Speaking at an online consultation on ‘Future of workers welfare institutions like EOBI & WWF’ on Zoom platform, organised by the Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research (Piler) here on Thursday, the labour leaders deplored that the social security institutions had failed to serve the majority of workers. ....

Witness denies any knowledge of Clifton's 'illegal high-rise' case

A prosecution witness brought by the National Accountability Bureau to an accountability court on Wednesday denied having any knowledge about a case pertaining to the alleged illegal allotment of a piece of commercial land in Karachiâs upmarket Clifton neighbourhood for constructing a multi-storey building.
Accountability Court-III, at a previous hearing, had indicted former Karachi mayor Mustafa Kamal, then district coordination officer Fazlur Rehman, former executive district officer Iftikhar Qaimkhani, then district officer Mumtaz Haider, ex-additional district officer Syed Nishat Ali, then Clifton sub-registrar II Nazir Zardari and five builders, Muhammad Dawood, Muhammad Yaqoob, Muhammad Irfan and Muhammad Rafiq. ....
