The Chestermere home along Oakmere Close was owned by Amjad Kamal, neighbour Khaleel Bhatti told Postmedia. The fire occurred while Amjad, his wife Batool Rashid and their five children were hosting his brother Asad Kamal, his wife Rafiya Kamal and their three children.

RCMP Cpl. Tammy Keibel said the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, though there is still no indication that the cause is criminal in nature.

A boy and a girl, both 12, an eight-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy perished in the fire in a home on Windmere Close. A man and a woman both thought to be 38 years old and another woman approximately age 35 also died, RCMP confirmed. A man and four children escaped the blaze.
