As we all know, education is undergoing a huge transformational shift since the pandemic hit. The sudden rise in remote learning created several challenges in homeschooling for educators, students, and parents. From lack of infrastructure (devices, broadband internet, printers, secure VPN) to the absence of developmental needs of children such as exercise, outdoor time, social interactions, face time with teachers, etc., to a looming financial meltdown education has many challenges to confront. If the pandemic continues in 2021, McKinsey estimates a learning loss of seven months on average in school children and “a hurt that could last a lifetime.” ....

A school district in Utah suspended its “equity” book program after receiving backlash from parents whose third-grade children said a teacher read a book about transgenderism in the classroom without first seeking parental consent.
The teacher at Horizon Elementary School read the book “Call Me Max” after a student brought the book to the class and asked for it to be read aloud, according to The Salt Lake Tribune.
When Max starts school, the teacher hesitates to call out the name on the attendance sheet. Something doesn’t seem to fit. Max lets her know the name he wants to be called by–a boy’s name. This begins Max’s journey as he makes new friends and reveals his feelings about his identity to his parents. Written with warmth and sensitivity by trans writer Kyle Lukoff, this book is a sweet and age-appropriate introduction to what it means to be transgender. ....

A group of Utah parents have prompted a review of an equity book program in their local school district after a teacher read a book favorable to transgenderism to a class of third-graders. The book, Call Me Max , written by transgender-identified author Kyle Lukoff, follows the story of a girl wanting to be seen as a boy.
The book is a transparent attempt to make children comfortable with the idea of changing gender. According to the book s description, it is a sweet and age-appropriate introduction to what it means to be transgender. ....

The Utah Department of Transportation urged drivers to delay their travel on Wednesday until 10 a.m. due to road conditions. The Cottonwood canyons expect to see 20-25 inches, according to UDOT. Big Cottonwood Canyon restrictions regarding traction devices were lifted by UDOT around 7:20 p.m.
Several crashes and slide-offs were reported Wednesday morning along freeways in the Salt Lake Valley and speeds were significantly reduced, according to the KSL Traffic Center.
By 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Utah Highway Patrol had responded to 219 crashes statewide, the agency said. Since the latest round of winter storms began on Saturday, troopers have investigated a total of 659 crashes and slide-offs. ....
