Crews from Buckland Fire and Rescue and the Lakeland and District Fire Department were called in to assist the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) with fighting wildfires in the Southend area on Saturday. A five person crew from the Lakeland and District Fire Department spent most of Saturday installing sprinklers on structures near one of several wildfires near the community. Meanwhile, a three member crew from Buckland Fire and Rescue responded with two trucks to help protect highway camps just south of the Southend Junction. ....
Prince Albert Daily Herald Travel alert issued for northern Saskatchewan due to wildfire risk An aircraft acquired from the Northwest Territories to support northern fire crews was debriefed in La Ronge on Friday A new aircraft is being briefed in La Ronge to assist northern fire crews. Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) put out an alert on Friday advising against unnecessary travel to northern Saskatchewan. “Some fires we’ve already identified and likely more by the end of the day,” SPSA vice-president of operations Steve Roberts said. “We’re sending out a general warning and advisory to anyone who is planning to travel that could impact their activities in the north… The provincial fire ban will remain in place for the next number of days.” ....
The Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRIB) communities of Grandmother’s Bay, Hall Lake and Stanley Mission are on standby notice due to smoky conditions. That’s means the elderly, young children or residents with health conditions affected by bad air quality should be on alert to be evacuated and prepare one week’s work of medication, clothing and infant formula if needed. So far, 144 people have already voluntarily evacuated Grandmother’s Bay and are staying at hotels in La Ronge and Prince Albert. Footage of the fire near Grandmother’s Bay.
