Maharashtra govt cracks the whip, caps hospital rates charged to treat COVID-19 patients Twitter/@OfficeofUT The Maharashtra government on Tuesday cracked the whip on private hospitals, prohibiting them from exorbitantly charging Covid patients. The government has capped hospital rates on the basis of the cities they are located in – Class A or B or C. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed district collectors and municipal commissioners to strictly follow the government directives. Cities have been categorised on the basis of insurance premiums and various allowances. The cost of treatment for patients, especially in rural areas, will be reduced by classifying and fixing the rates of related treatments on the same criteria.

US study shows how domestic travel ban to check Covid can lead to more cases, cites India data Sravasti Dasgupta © Provided by The Print New Delhi: Domestic travel bans to control Covid-19 transmission are likely to “counterintuitively” increase cases, especially in countries with a large migrant population, a new US study has found. According to the study, conducted by researchers from the University of Chicago, domestic travel bans could increase cases if the duration of the restrictions is not very short or very long but is of moderate length. “Although very short and long restrictions limit the spread of disease, moderately lengthy restrictions substantially increase infections. This suggests significant caution before imposing mobility restrictions in developing countries,” the study said.
