Defense Cabinet Secretary Ambassador Monica Juma received the award on Mama Ngina’s behalf and handed it to her during a ceremony held at State House on Sunday.
The annual prize is awarded to African personalities who use dialogue to avert conflict on the continent and is named after Senegalese President Macky Sall who is a celebrated African mediator.
She was awarded for continuously and silently using dialogue to diffuse tension in the country and the region over the years.
Mama Ngina was particularly recognized for her leading role in ending the political tension experienced in the wake of the 2017 general election.

Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta today received her 2019 Macky Sall Prize for Dialogue in Africa from Defence Cabinet Secretary Dr Amb Monica Juma.
The prize was awarded on December 11 last year at the Museum of Black Civilization in Dakar, Senegal by President Macky Sall and received by Dr Juma on behalf of the former First Lady who couldn t travel because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta was on Friday, December 11, awarded the Macky Sall Peace Award for her role in mediating peace through dialogue.
Receiving the award on her behalf was Defence CS
Monica Juma during an event in Senegal which also included prize money worth 50,000 Euros which is approximately Ksh6.7 million.
“While this award is bestowed on Her Excellency Mama Ngina Kenyatta, its honour and impact go beyond her. It is for our country Kenya, the East African region and every person and institution that privileges and promotes dialogue over any other options for human existence,” said CS Juma.
