Ex-Burnley FC defender thanks selfless work of NHS staff

Former Burnley FC defender Clarke Carlisle has thanked local NHS workers, with a special mention to those working in mental health services.
The former professional footballer, who attempted to take his life in 2014, thanked the NHS from the bottom of his heart as Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust launched their Thank You Week - which coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week and International Nurses’ Day.
Clarke said: “I know people are acknowledging what you’re doing now, it’s almost as though they think you’ve just started to work hard, but you have been synonymous with my journey from 2017 and I know that you’ve been working incredibly hard for decades. ....

Free lunch gesture for vaccine volunteers and clinicians at Burnley's St Peter's Centre

Former Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle rallied the businesses to sponsor Padiham catering company Simply Classic to prepare the hot lunches for volunteers and clinicians giving their time at the St Peter s Centre in helping to roll out the jab.
Since December 14th the health and leisure centre in Church Street has seen volunteers working round the clock to ensure vaccinations are done in a friendly environment.
Mr Birtwistle, who along with wife Kathleen gathered a Jab Army for the vaccination effort, said: I thought it was only fair that we should try and provide our volunteers and hard-working clinicians with a free lunch during their efforts. ....
