Former Vice-President Hamid Ansari has said “strident nationalism has taken over the political and cultural landscape and is making India intolerant, arrogant and insecure and undermining fraternity”.
In an interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire news portal, Ansari said “a version of nationalism that places cultural commitments at its core and promotes intolerance and arrogant patriotism has tended to intrude into and take over the political and cultural landscape”. 
Referring to it as “hyper-nationalism” and “strident nationalism”, he said it was threatening dissent and making the country insecure about its place in the world. It is undermining the fraternity that has held together the man ....

NEW DELHI: Former Vice President Hamid Ansari on Wednesday lamented there is a concerted effort by some in the country to regard Muslims as others and stressed that India s plural society has been the reality for centuries.
Participating in a discussion on his book By Many a Happy Accident: Recollections of a Life , he said his Muslim-ness did not matter and his professional competence did.
There is a concerted effort from certain quarters to regard Muslims as others. Am I a citizen or not? If I am a citizen, I have the right to be a beneficiary of all things that flow out of citizenship, he said, but did not elaborate. ....

New Delhi: Former Vice President Hamid Ansari says two happenings in his last week in office tended to cause offence in some quarters and were perceived to be teeming with hidden meanings a reference to his convocation address and a TV interview where he spoke about apprehensions of insecurity among minorities.
Ansari, who demitted office on August 10, 2017 after two terms as Vice President (2007-2017) and Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, makes these comments in his latest book By Many a Happy Accident: Recollections of a Life in which he talks about growing up to cultivation of the mind and representing India as a diplomat to vice presidency. ....
