1. John Wisden was a pioneering cricketer in Victorian times. A 5ft 4ins fast bowler, he was nicknamed The Little Wonder and once took all 10 wickets in an innings, every one of them clean bowled. He went into business in 1850, while still at the height of his career, selling cricket gear in Leamington. In 1859 he went on the first English cricket tour abroad - to the USA and Canada.
2. A new edition of Wisden has been published every year since 1864. The first edition was priced at one shilling. It ran to only 112 pages and was padded out with several items unrelated to cricket, including notable dates of battles in the English Civil War, the winners of The Oaks, and the rules of quoiting.

New Delhi, April 20 : Kapil Dev (the 1980s), Sachin Tendulkar (the 1990s) and Virat Kohli (the 2010s) have been named among the five greatest players of the five decades in which ODIs have been played in the 158th Edition of the Wisden Cricketers Almanack 2021 that also describes India as the new masters of cricket - and heaps praise on its 2-1 victory in the 2020-21 tour of Australia.
Vivian Richards (the 1970s) and Muttiah Muralitharan (the 2000s) are the other two in the list.

LONDON: India captain Virat Kohli has been named Wisden Almanack s ODI player of the 2010s, while England all-rounder Ben Stokes was declared the Cricketer of the Year for a second successive time by the highly-rated annual publication.
The 32-year-old Kohli, who made his ODI debut in August 2008 against Sri Lanka, is among the finest batsmen of all time, and has amassed a staggering 12,169 runs from 254 ODIs. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first One-Day International, five ODI cricketers of the decade have been named in the 2021 edition of the Wisden Cricketers Almanack, the reference book, often described as Bible of Cricket, stated.
