In my view, and while I have enjoyed being mayor, the leader and cabinet model is a tried, tested and successful way to run a council. That’s why I proposed we hold a referendum on returning to it. The former mayor, who was removed from office, showed what can go wrong with the mayoral system. Plus most councils manage perfectly well without one. Now that we’ve recovered and stabilised the council, I think it’s a chance to go back to the old system. If voters choose to keep the mayoral system, we’ll work with it, but leader and cabinet works well for most councils.

Former CEO Of Unilever Europe Joins Ahold Delhaize Board

3rd February 2021 Ahold Delhaize has nominated former Unilever executive Jan Zijderveld for appointment to its supervisory board, effective 14 April. Zijderveld is a Dutch national who spent almost 30 years at Unilever holding several senior management positions in seven different countries, ending up as CEO & President of Unilever Europe. He then became Chief Executive Officer of Avon in 2018, leaving last year after a successful turnaround of its business which ultimately resulted in an acquisition of the company by The Natura & Co. Peter Agnefjäll, Chair of Ahold Delhaize’s Supervisory Board, commented: “We are pleased to propose Jan for appointment to the Supervisory Board. He will bring extensive international experience, consumer insights in a broad range of products and valuable knowledge of the global retail space.
