Allow domestic workers to enjoy public holidays – Labour Officer


 
Employers have been called on to respect the rights of workers and allow them to enjoy public holidays or pay for extra hours in lieu of them.
Mr Fuseini Alhassan, Northern Regional Labour Officer, who made the call, emphasised that “Domestic workers also have rights and responsibilities, and employers need to allow them to also enjoy public holidays, and if their work is necessary and they have to work on public holidays, then, they must be paid for the extra hours.”
Making a presentation on the Domestic Workers Regulation at a training workshop in Tamale for employers on the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conventions 189 and C190. ....

The suspension of sittings for three weeks following an upsurge in COVID-19 cases among Members of Parliament (MPs) and Parliamentary Service staff is one of the leading stories in the Ghanaian press on Wednesday.
The Graphic reports that the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Bagbin, has suspended sittings for three weeks following an upsurge in COVID-19 cases among Members of Parliament (MPs) and Parliamentary Service staff.
In a statement in Parliament on Tuesday, February 9, 2021, the Speaker disclosed that some 17 MPs and 151 Parliamentary staff and ancillary workers in Parliament have tested positive for COVID-19.
However, he stressed that the Appointment Committee will go ahead with the vetting of the President s nominees for Ministerial portfolios during the suspension. ....
