Fox Chapel Area High School and Dorseyville Middle School students won awards as part of the virtual 87th Annual Region 7 Meeting of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science (PJAS).
District first-place winners were seniors Jackson Romero and Sanjay Seshan; juniors Zoe Lakkis and Siddharth Yende; sophomores Lawrence Liu and Arvind Seshan; freshmen Lakshanya Rajaganapathi and Adhitya Thirumala; and eighth graders Anna Delale-O’Connor, Etash Jhanji and Rohit Velankar.
First-place winners qualified for the state PJAS competition which will be held virtually in May.

In February, local nonprofit The Practice Space partnered with the El Cerrito High School Speech and Debate Team to host the Berman Speech Invitational, an online speech and debate tournament featuring middle and high school students from 20 schools throughout the Bay Area the majority of which were from the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD).
About 70 to 80 students ranging from ages 12 to 18 participated, along with 30 to 40 judges, according to AnnMarie Baines, PhD., executive director of The Practice Space who served as the invitational’s tournament director. WCCUSD participants originated from schools including El Cerrito High School, Kennedy High School, Pinole High School and Korematsu Middle School. Schools outside of the local district included Analy High School in Sebastopol, American Canyon High School and a few others.

North Star Speech & Drama Competes
North Star Speech & Drama competed at the Three Forks Invitational on Saturday, January 16th. Don t worry about a thing.the students did NOT compete in person down at Three Forks because of the heavy fog. Thanks to our modern day technology, they were able to be there virtually. Emily Conner competed in Humorous Interpretation for the FIRST time with a fine piece entitled, Counting to Three . Garret Pedersen competed in Impromptu Speaking, & made made it all the way to semi s & then, the FINALS placing 9th. This past weekend was the FINAL regular meet hosted by Great Falls Central. I ll be posting those results from Great Falls Central later this week on my Puffman Blog.
