Britt Merrick Brings Channel Islands Surfboards Back Into Family

The Carpinteria-based company, which has been owned by Burton Snowboards since 2006, is in the process of being resold to a collective of investors headed by Britt Merrick, the son of founders Al and Terry Merrick.
The CI Surfboards LLC also includes senior members of the brand’s management team, employees and various team riders. While the company had received a boon in brand-building from Burton’s acquisition, the family felt the time was right to regain ownership.
“For me, acquiring back the business is a lifestyle choice to continue that same family ethos of furthering the joy and community of surfing, Britt Merrick said. People in our area know that you can have life-changing moments in the waves beautiful, transformative moments that make you want to always live in a certain healthy, vibrant way. And the cool thing is, these moments all happen on surfboards.” ....

Mikey Wright, the brother of World Surfing Champion Tyler Wright, has saved a life in dramatic scenes on Hawaii.
The wild surf was peppering the shore and a woman was unable to stand up as a heavy set created foamy conditions.
In a pair of videos posted to Tyler Wright s Instagram with the caption Closing out 2020 with some hero s by @mikeywright69 and on Mikey s own page as Hold my beer , the 24-year-old ran into the wild conditions in incredible scenes.

Santa Barbara s Lakey Peterson and Ojai s Sage Erickson were both a part of history as they surfed in the very first Pipeline women’s contest. Both surfers were knocked out in the quarterfinals Peterson by a mere 3.07 points in a battle with Sally Fitzgibbons of Australia, and Erickson by Brazil s Tatiana Weston-Webb (Brazil).
Beyond the 805-area surfers, many of the pros in both the men s and women s contests were riding locally made Channel Islands surfboards or Pyzel Surfboards, shaped in Hawaii by Santa Barbara-born surfer Jon Pyzel.
