High court seeks report on 'donation demands' by private medical colleges - Newspaper


PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Wednesday directed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa advocate general to produce a report about the alleged monetary demands made by private medical colleges to students for admissions.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice Qaiser Rashid Khan and Justice Syed M Attique Shah observed that some private medical colleges had become money-minting machines and thus, playing with the future of the deserving students.
It fixed Mar 25 for the next hearing into a petition seeking orders for domicile restriction for admission to private medical and dental colleges in the province and declaring illegal the assigning of 20 per cent interview marks for those admissions. ....

The majority Black workforce in Bessemer is challenging the world’s richest human, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, in their fight to be recognized by the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU).  Bezos is so desperate to bust the union drive, he is illegally offering workers $2,000 to $3,000 “resignation bonuses.” 
Speaking in East New York, part of Brooklyn, N.Y., outside an Amazon fulfillment center, Omowale Clay from the D12 Movement said: “A yes vote for the union will be a mighty blow against Amazon. A win in Bessemer will be a shot in the arm to organized labor, which will be heard around the world!” ....

West Roxbury man sets up account for at-large bid

If City Councilor Frank Baker (Dorchester) runs for re-election this fall, he ll have completion: Stephen McBride, who says he believes in a bold, progressive Boston.
The Beacon Hill Times reports on endorsements of mayoral candidate Andrea Campbell, including one by former state Rep Marty Walz.
The Dorchester Reporter reports that Munim Khan of West Roxbury has filed papers with the state to run for an at-large council seat.
The Reporter also reports Boston state representatives met Monday to discuss how to get passage of a bill that would let Boston bypass a special election for mayor this year should Marty Walsh resign to become labor secretary. State Rep. Chynah Tyler is expected to formally introduce the bill to let Boston only hold two mayoral elections - a preliminary and the final - instead of the four that would otherwise be required by the city charter. ....
