Several Oldham mill sites have advanced in recent months, mostly involving demolition and new-build. Renaker subsidiary Kellen Homes bought Royton’s Vernon Mill in March with plans for 100 houses, while plans are in the works for a new-build apartment scheme at Thornham Mill.
Oldham’s June planning committee is also recommended to approve West Vale, a First Choice Homes project involving the demolition of two tower blocks, Crossbank House and Summervale House, to be replaced by 88 homes and open space.
The site sits close to Manchester Street at the town centre’s western gateway, with the plans including 26 houses and 62 apartments in an eight-storey block. NJL Consulting advises First Choice, with PRP as architect. ....

A pregnant mother has been forced to bring up her four children in a cramped, mould-covered home plagued by rodents.
Kellie Sullivan says her two-bedroom house, in Oldham, Greater Manchester, barely has enough space for her family to sleep - and is covered in mould caused by severe damp.
Ms Sullivan - who is pregnant with her fifth child - has received an apology from property manager First Choice Homes, who vowed to help her find somewhere else to live.
But the firm said the pandemic has made it difficult to find alternative accommodation for Ms Sullivan, her partner Tommy Sanders and their children Carter, five, Taylor, three, Jordan, two, and Madison ten months. ....

The winners of a photography competition aimed at challenging negative stereotypes of older people will have their work shown to thousands of people from this week.
Six striking images that celebrate the diversity of older people’s lives and their contributions to society will be shown on digital billboards in each of Greater Manchester’s 10 boroughs from today (Monday).
Twelve winning entries in the Old Frame New Picture competition will also feature on a set of postcards and a total of 41 shortlisted images will be displayed in an online exhibition. ....
