The first hint for Gov. Ned Lamont and his top aides that Connecticut might be better off sticking with age groups as the vaccination order, not front-line workers or people with medical conditions, came in a mid-afternoon meeting on a very hectic day at the state Capitol in early January.

He further notes that inaction thus upholding existing racial disparities is a powerful force that can only be overcome with intentionally anti-racist policy.
In the first seven weeks of 2021, Ned Lamont has proven a powerful force in upholding Connecticut’s racial inequities. First, in his 2021 budget, and again in his vaccine roll-out policy, Lamont made forceful and active decisions to ignore equity. Ned Lamont said Monday he is throwing out the state’s current playbook for the COVID-19 vaccine rollout – which had prioritized people with underlying medical conditions and certain types of workers, such as grocery store and agricultural employees – and is shifting to a system that is strictly age-based, with the next round of shots open to people who are 55 to 64 beginning March 1. ....
