Southern Illinois continues to bolster roster in preparation for 2021 Marion, IL (March 3, 2021) – The Southern Illinois Miners announce that pitcher Blake Stelzer and outfielder Dalton Mitchell have returned to the club after playing elsewhere in 2020, and have also signed outfielder Jared Mang out of the California Winter League. Stelzer, a 6’3” right-handed pitcher, played for the St. Cloud Rox in the summer collegiate Northwoods League in 2020, and had a 3-1 record and seven saves in 16 appearances out of the bullpen along with 22 strikeouts, 11 walks, and a 2.73 ERA. He was slated to join the Miners last year out of Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota, where he pitched to a 0.52 ERA in 17 1/3 innings along with a 25:5 strikeout-to-walk ratio as a senior before the COVID-19 pandemic shut down college athletics. ....

Former Utah State co-defensive coordinator Stacy Collins was hired to run special teams for the Broncos and work with the edge rushers on defense. Collins spent the last five seasons at Utah State, and joins the Broncos along with fellow Aggie Frank Maile. Collins has coached running backs, linebackers, defensive backs, and special teams in recent years. The 45-year old ball coach also has head coaching experience at Division II South Dakota School of Mines. ....

Reed Named First Team All-MW, Shook Second Team COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Jerrick Reed II, who led the Mountain West in interceptions and interceptions per game, was named First Team All-Mountain West at safety, becoming the first non-specialist for UNM to be named First Team All-Conference since 2014. Reed was joined by linebacker Brandon Shook, who was named Second Team All-Conference. Reed’s honor was the first time that a non-specialist earned first team honors since the 2014 season when both Dakota Cox (linebacker) and LaMar Bratton (offensive line) were named to the team. Corey Bojorquez, a punter who is now with the Buffalo Bills, was named First Team All-Mountain West in 2017. ....
