By ZBC Reporter MUTARE has raised the Zimbabwean flag high after scooping two awards in the Multi-City Challenge Africa, beating cities like Accra, Kano and Kampala in a competition meant to come up with solutions for challenges affecting local authorities. It is not a secret that local authorities have disappointed ratepayers by failing to provide quality service, with corruption crippling operations in urban areas. Corrupt and under performing local authorities are, however, not peculiar to Zimbabwe, with most African countries grappling with the same ordeal. This is the main reason why the Multi-City Challenge has been introduced for local authorities with the help of residents to come up with proposals of innovative solutions to deal with issues such as proper waste management and infrastructure development. ....
MDC Alliance set to investigate Mutare mayoral polls BY KENNETH NYANGANI THE MDC Alliance party is investigating the outcome of the Mutare City Council elections that saw councillor Farai Bhiza aligned to the MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora winning the deputy mayoral post. Mwonzora last month recalled seven MDC Alliance councillors in Mutare. The elections, which were held last week, were meant to replace deputy mayor Kudakwashe Chisango, who was recalled. Bhiza, who recently defected to Mwonzora’s camp, was allegedly voted into office by some MDC Alliance councillors. He (Bhiza) polled seven votes against five garnered by Simon Chabuka of MDC Alliance. ....
