HCM City authorities have instructed districts to take urgent action to prevent speculators from exploiting the news about urban development planning.
HCM City has experienced two land price escalations so far this year. Earlier this year, when Thu Duc City was established by merging districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc, the land price soared in the eastern part of HCM City.
The news about urban development planning and the apartment shortage has created a new price level in Thu Duc City. It is very difficult to find apartments with selling prices below VND40 million per square meter there.

Land prices in the HCM City suburban district of Can Gio have been soaring following the news that Can Gio will become an inner city district, or a city in the future. The local authorities have prohibited civil servants from acting as land brokers.
More than a year ago, the HCM City Department of Home Affairs submitted a statement to the People’s Committee on a plan to convert some suburban districts into inner city districts, or into cities in the 2021-2030 period, which showed that the conversion of Cu Chi and Can Gio were scheduled to be carried out in from 2025 to 2030.

The Ho Chi Minh City administration has called off all fireworks displays that were previously planned for the celebration of this year’s Reunification Day (April 30) given the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic in many countries.
The decision was announced by chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong during an urgent meeting on COVID-19 prevention and control on Monday morning.
There will be no pyrotechnic performances on this year’s Reunification Day, which will fall on Friday, chairman Phong asserted.
