Athens Commission discusses COVID-19 response, ACCPD and mental health


COVID response update
The data, presented by ACC Manager Blaine Williams, showed an overall decline in new COVID-19 infection rates since February in Clarke County and among ACC government employees, consistent with state and nationwide numbers.
Williams said over 250 ACC employees in the tier 1A+ category for vaccine priority, which includes first responders and people over 65, have now been vaccinated.
District 3 Commissioner Melissa Link asked Williams if any county employees were hesitant to receive the vaccine, and asked if the county could require its eligible employees to receive it. Williams said it’s likely that not all eligible county employees have taken it since the county cannot require them to be vaccinated. ....

SEBASTIAN A wildlife-rescue team tracked a coyote four days through wooded areas and neighborhoods where residents reported seeing the animal roaming for more than a week with its head stuck in a plastic pretzel jar.

SOUTH WINDSOR A Windsor man has been charged in connection with a November incident in which authorities said he tried to steal four snowblowers from a Lowe’s store.
Delroy A. Brooks, 54, of Barber Street in Windsor, was taken into custody on Feb. 12 by Wethersfield police on unrelated charges, according to police.
Brooks was turned over to South Windsor police, where he was charged on an active arrest warrant with third-degree criminal trespass, conspiracy to commit third-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and interfering with an officer, police said. ....

Opera Omaha rescheduling remainder of 2020-2021 performances

Opera Omaha is rescheduling the remainder of their 2020-2021 Orpheum Theater productions due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
On Tuesday, Opera Omaha released a statement saying that the move was being made in order to, protect the safety of our patrons, artists and staff. Opera Omaha says they are working with artists and creative teams to offer previously scheduled titles and productions next year in their 2021/2022 Season. An announcement on the rescheduled programs is expected early next year.
Affected productions include The Marriage of Figaro, which was scheduled for February 2021, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon of Barber Street, scheduled for April 2021. Opera Omaha says they will plan on offering additional outdoor Opera To Go neighborhood concerts, once weather permits, and say they are, Currently working to develop new large scale outdoor programming for the late spring, 2021. ....
