Mi Hazánk to Protest Against 'Excessive Closures' on March 15th

The ‘Mi Hazánk’ movement announced that they would organize a protest against “excessive closures” on March 15th. However, the decision received criticism arguing that the demonstration is clearly not appropriate when the epidemiological situation is continuously deteriorating.
“We the yoke of slavery/No more shall wear”- the motto of Mi Hazánk’s protest was taken from one of the most popular Hungarian poems, Sándor Petőfi’s National Song, and therefore is a reference to the 1848 revolution which started on March 15th, though likening the situation of Hungarians fighting for their rights in the Habsburg Empire to closures introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, is undoubtedly far-fetched. ....

Opposition Unsatisfied With Restrictions in Hungary, Suggests Reopening
Hungary’s opposition parties have various plans and suggestions for the gradual lifting of lockdown restrictions. They are all unsatisfied with the governing Fidesz party’s approach to the pandemic, and think it is time to gradually lift restrictions in a controlled manner.
Head of the Prime Minister’s Office, Gergely Gulyás, announced last Friday that a two-step reopening can be expected to begin first in March, then in April. The restrictions will be lifted if the rates of infection allow for it.

Socialist Party Calls for Review Of Hungary's Lockdown Measures

Following Far-right party Mi Hazánk, the Socialists have also started criticizing the Orbán government for the lockdown measures in effect. The party’s MEP called for the review of the current restrictions.
István Ujhelyi believes that during the epidemic “the government has exploited” and shown no solidarity towards the service sector which has reached its limit, so now actions must be taken.
The politician called the government’s restrictions imposed last November ‘reckless,’ adding that it is time for a deliberate and clever redesign of the regulations for certain services.
After months of struggling to stay in business due to the sharp drop in revenues caused by pandemic restrictions, certain catering businesses in Hungary are beginning to announce their re-opening in opposition of the government. In an act of rebellion against restrictions, Központ (Center), a pub in Madách Square, Budapest, opened its doors for take-out […]Continue reading ....
