Mental Health Recovery Frameworks Often Marginalize Personal Narratives
While recovery frameworks challenge traditional psychiatric discourse, this research too often limits lived experience perspectives.

For people living with mental health challenges, “recovery” can be a contested and highly personal process, not easily conceptualized through psychological or psychiatric concepts. A new meta-theoretical study by scholars Calvin Swords and Stan Houston from Trinity College Dublin examines how different understandings of recovery impact lived experience, mental health practice, and service delivery.
Swords and Houston explain:
“The aims of the research were to evaluate the extent to which a recovery approach informed practice … examine how the differing professionals … viewed the concept [of recovery]; and reach tentative conclusions on how to enhance the implementation of a recovery-oriented approach within practice.” ....

Consistent record keeping is an essential part of nursing practice. This article describes a project to improve and provide guidance for record keeping among Admiral Nurses
Abstract
Admiral Nurses are specialist nurses who support families affected by dementia. It was recognised that the nurses needed further support with the structure and consistency of their record keeping to ensure high standards were met and the complexity of their work was reflected. This article describes the use of a practice development approach to support Admiral Nurses in their record keeping practice. As a result of the project, best-practice guidance and a framework for writing was developed. Actively involving the Admiral Nurses in this process led to a positive response to the record-keeping framework supporting sustainable change. ....

Registration open for June community-engaged learning faculty institute

Registration is open for the annual Faculty Institute on Community-Engaged Learning and Teaching (CELT), where Cornell faculty come together to understand the foundations of community-engaged learning (CEL), bounce ideas off one another and share how they’ve used CEL to deepen student learning and connect with community needs.
Usually a two-day, in-person event, the 2021 CELT is a series of four online Community Conversations, held weekly June 1–22, from 1 to 1:50 p.m.
Staff from the Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) and the Office of Engagement Initiatives co-sponsors of the institute will facilitate the discussions, encouraging participants to explore the elements of community-engaged learning, including online pedagogical innovations. ....
