Adequate beds in Assam government hospitals to treat COVID-19 patients

COVID-19 TREATMENT STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The government hospitals are still having adequate beds to treat COVID-19 patients even as the number of infected persons is fast rising in the State s capital city. Principal-cum-Chief Superintendent of Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) Dr Achyut Chandra Baishya told The Sentinel on Monday that around 200 beds, including those with ICU facility, are vacant at his hospital. He said since the GMCH is discharging recovered COVID patients almost every day vacant beds are created quite frequently. Dr Baishya said the number of vacant beds as of Monday was 100 at Sarusojai COVID centre, 40 to 45 at Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital and 50 to 55 at the Government Ayurvedic College at Jalukbari. He said additional beds will be created at Patanjali Yogpeeth at Mirza from Tuesday.
