New Delhi: Salt-to-software conglomerate Tata Sons’ digital arm Tata Digital has held early talks with Just Dial, the online classifieds company, to ink a strategic deal or a potential stake purchase, as the $113 billion Tata group is poised to beef up its presence in e-commerce.
Last month, the Tata group reportedly acquired 68 per cent in online grocer BigBasket for Rs 9,500 crore, and the deal assumes significance because the conglomerate is building a super-app that will offer a wide range of items under one roof. Jio Fiber is a fibre-to-the-home internet broadband service provided by telecom operator Reliance Jio Infocomm, part of the Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance group. The service was first announced as Jio GigaFiber in 2018 at the Reliance Industries 41st annual general meeting. Later renamed Jio Fiber, it is scheduled for a commercial launch on September 5, 2019. The Jio Fiber service is currently under trials at select locations in several cities and states. The FTTH broadband service promises a speed of up to 1 Gigabit per second. Besides, it would be the core technology enabler behind the GigaTV platform and the company’s products in the internet of thing (IoT) ecosystem.

The ire of the protesting farmers continues to cost dearly to the Mukesh Ambani-controlled Reliance Jio. Even after the appeal from the Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh to stop attacks on the telecom infrastructure of Jio, the attack on its towers and optical fiber material has not been halted. As per Jio sources, the farmers have damaged over 1,300 towers, and burned optical fiber bundles of the telco.
