The mother of an eight-year-old Leicester boy who was killed in a tragic collision on a so-called smart motorway has welcomed a government pledge to make them safer.
Meera Naran is campaigning in memory of young Dev, who died in a crash on the M6, in Birmingham, two years ago.
The youngster was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on a hard shoulder being used as a live motorway lane on May 31, 2018 - after his grandfather s car which had stopped for unknown reasons was struck by a lorry travelling at 56mph. ....

New smart motorways will not be able to open without additional safety measures to spot broken-down vehicles quickly, and existing smart motorways will receive the technology sooner than planned, the government has said.
