May 24, 2021 Bystanders help contain garage fire in southwest Minot Two bystanders using garden hoses helped contain a garage fire on Sunday until the Minot Fire Department arrived and finished extinguishing the fire. Firefighters responded to 1517 4th St SW for a report of a garage on fire. Upon arrival, fire units found bystanders spraying water on the fire and a garbage can next to the garage. Fire crews finished extinguishing the flames and checked the garage for any further damage or hazards. During the course of the fire investigation, it was determined charcoal ashes used the day before had been discarded in the garbage can. There were still some hot embers that ignited materials in the garbage can, causing the fire. The Fire Department reminds residents to be sure all burned materials are completely out and cool before being discarded. This can be done by stirring ashes and burnt material around until completely cool, or by using water to extinguish any burning or smol ....
May 18, 2021 Release Date: 5/18/2021 A home in northwest Minot suffered damage from a fire Monday, although no one was injured after a passerby stopped and entered the home to alert the sleeping occupants that the home was on fire. The Minot Fire Department was called to 1112 16th St. NW around 4:20 p.m. The first arriving fire crews found smoke and fire coming from the front door of the home and on the deck around the front door. Firefighters extinguished the fire and completed a primary search of the home. No occupants were in the home. With the fire extinguished, fire crews ventilated the house and searched for any additional fire. One occupant of the home was treated by Community Ambulance for smoke inhalation he suffered while removing pets from the home before firefighters arrived. He denied transport to the hospital. No firefighters were injured during the incident. The fire was caused by improperly discarded smoking materials ....
