Did you know that the Boothbay Region YMCA offers these adventures along with a full high and low ropes course right here in our community as an extension of Camp Knickerbocker? When the Y began its summer camp in 1956, it was located on the Back Narrows Road in Boothbay. While offering a new summer camp experience for youth in the community was welcomed, the location held challenges for programming. The move to Barter’s Island Road was a strategic effort to allow for fresh water swimming. Now, with 65 acres, the property includes the main Camp K campus, Jackson Island (located in between Little and Big Knickerbocker lakes), the Jackson House, and the Baldwin Adv ....
KEVIN BURNHAM Robert Mitchell photo My fellow dog walker on Back Narrows Road, Peggy Kotin, wrote a letter to the editor this week which inspired me to get out there and do what I have been putting off for months. I spent about an hour on Sunday morning, in honor of Earth Day (April 22), cleaning up the roadside on my 200-yard dog walking route. Without the dog in tow (she wouldn t have helped at all), I filled a 13-gallon garbage bag with returnable cans and bottles and half filled a 30-gallon trash bag with trash. Most of that was on just one side of the road in the 200-yard stretch, as someone had already cleaned the other side of the road. I know that some of the trash perhaps blew out of the back of a pickup but not the bottles and cans and not some of the trash (I found a half-filled plastic bottle of liquid fertilizer!?). Let s heed Peggy s advice to not litter and try to keep our roadsides nice to look at. I plan on keeping up with the roadside clean-up duty to ....

Barnes, 61, of Wiscasset was issued summonses April 9 for Operating Vehicle with Expired License (over 90 days) and Failure to Stop at a Red Light, on Middle Street, Wiscasset, by Deputy Michael Godin. Arrests Rodney Palmer, 67, of Wiscasset was arrested April 7 for Domestic Violence Assault and on a warrant out of York County for Failure to Appear, on Birch Point Road, Wiscasset, by Deputy Caleb Poirier, who was assisted by Sgt.
