Head coach Misbah rues 'poor and disappointing' performance in ODI series

Daily Times July 15, 2021 LAHORE: After losing 3-0 to England’s second-string side, Pakistan head coach Misbahul Haq has admitted he was left shell-shocked, citing the “poor performance” as a collective failure of the players and support staff. He said he was left looking for answers on what went wrong. “You can never defend such performances, it was poor and disappointing,” Misbah said in a virtual press conference on Wednesday. “In the first game, we couldn’t handle the conditions with the bat. In the last match, the batting did well and got a good total which we should have defended but then the bowling and fielding was disappointing, and that has been a problem throughout the series. So overall I think nobody can defend it and we need to pick it up.” Pakistan haven’t won an ODI series in England in the last 47 years, their last win coming in 1974. But despite England’s historical dominance over Pakistan, the 3-0 reverse represented a chastening defeat for Pa

Misbah blames domestic set-up for series loss

July 15, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Head coach Misbahul Haq has put the blame for the 3-0 whitewash in England to Pakistan’s weak domestic system. In a virtual press conference Wednesday, Misbah said England had the luxury to shuffle with resources. “Unlike England, finding a replacement or a new player for a particular place becomes difficult. “The strength of the system allows England to fill in the vacuum. We don’t have such a luxury. We are finding it hard to pick a right player in the middle-order as one odd performance in the T20 League cricket sometimes helps a player to earn a place on the team.

Rizwan and Hasan promoted to Category A as PCB announces central contracts for 20 elite players

Daily Times July 3, 2021 LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) promoted wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan and fast bowler Hasan Ali in Category A of central contracts announced for elite 20 players on Friday. The duo join Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi in the top category. The contracts determine pay and other benefits for the 20 players, with the aim of retaining talent in Pakistan. The latest list is also a timely birthday gift for Hasan, who turned 27 on Friday. Hasan missed out on a contract last year through injury, but has made a great comeback in all three formats –– taking 10 wickets against South Africa in February and another nine against Zimbabwe three months later. Rizwan has also been playing well, scoring maiden Test and Twenty20 centuries this year. The PCB has also included three emerging cricketers in the central contracts, in which match fee across all formats has been equalised.
