A threatened car blockade intended to disrupt the return of La Mesa’s farmers market on Friday never materialized.
Some brick-and-mortar establishments downtown say the market that runs along a two-block stretch of La Mesa Boulevard cuts in on their business. Residents, however, relish the opportunity to walk the area and shop for super ripe plums and fresh-cut daisies.
One East County resident took to social media on Thursday pushing for a “car sit-in,” in which people would take up parking spaces set aside for farmers and vendors. Vehicles along the boulevard must move by 2 p.m. when the market vendors arrive for the 3 to 7 p.m. event, or risk being ticketed and towed.
