The seven-way fight for the Virginia Republican gubernatorial nomination has garnered the bulk of state political media attention this spring, but it s hardly the only statewide contest.

The template is simple.
Step 1: Invite a campus speaker, preferably one with a history of making overtly racist remarks.
Step 2: When students and/or faculty complain, mount the highest horse available to rant about the importance of promoting “conversations.”

This behavior is only cliché because it works. But last week, UCLA’s Eugene Volokh took a virtual trip over to Pepperdine Law School and stripped bare the school’s lip service to honest discussion. ....

Bob Goff On Finding Your Purpose

February 22, 2021
If we’re going to do community well and take a genuine interest in others, there’s a land mine I have to warn you about: comparison. Don’t you dare hold up your ambitions to someone else’s and try to rank them like some kind of inspiration cage fight. All this said, you know what’s crazy? I preach this stuff every day to others and yet, I still find myself struggling with comparison. If I did one push up for every time I compared my ambition to someone else’s ambition, I’d be totally ripped. When it comes to comparison, don’t do it and don’t fall for it. Comparison is punk. ....
