OKLAHOMA CITY -
Oklahoma City Parks is offering a band camp to local students to learn about what it s like to play in a historically Black college and university-style band.
The Oklahoma City All-Star Band is working to preserve and introduce students to historically Black college and university marching band culture. One of the band directors, Larry Birden Jr., described HBCU bands as show-stopping, upbeat, a band that doesn t compare to most.
“They play top 10, top 40 hits, and they re usually populated with kids from the urban cities. So, it has an urban, hip-hop type of culture style to it. So it s very flashy, it s very entertaining and it s very competitive, as well,” Birden said.
Throughout the day on Tuesday, MSNBC anchors and reporters bitterly complained that states like Oklahoma were fighting back against left-wing attempts to push radical propaganda like Critical Race Theory in schools. The coverage falsely claimed the proposed legislation would somehow ban any discussion of race or racism in the classroom and desperately tried to spin the effort to protect students from an extreme political agenda as an attack on free speech.

MCALESTER, Okla. -
At 35 years old, Oklahoma’s newly appointed Secretary of Education is not only the youngest ever to hold that position in Oklahoma, but Ryan Walters is also the only Secretary of Education in Oklahoma to continue to teach.
“I absolutely love teaching, being around young people: the hope, the excitement, the energy that comes from it, Walters said.
Walters told News On 6 s Tess Maune his goal as a top advisor to the governor is to make a difference for students across the state, the same ambition he’s had for years as a high school teacher.
