Buffett, McAnally pen ode to coast with ‘Gulf Coast Girl’

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. Pascagoula’s own Jimmy Buffett and longtime collaborator Mac McAnally have penned a new song as an ode to the coast, entitled “Gulf Coast Girl.”
The song, performed by Caroline Jones & The Pelicanaires (Buffet, McAnally, Kenny Chesney, Lukas Nelson), is the being used as part of a new tourism campaign by Coastal Mississippi.
“It is a true honor to work with such accomplished artists and to further our promotion of ‘The Secret Coast’,” said Milton Segarra, CEO of Coastal Mississippi. “This collaboration with such phenomenal home-grown and world-class talent is sure to instill community pride and, in turn, garner increased exposure for the region as a destination, showcasing the incredibly diverse array of experiences that Coastal Mississippi has to offer visitors of all ages.” ....

CVBs weathered pandemic storm, and are looking forward to recovery in tourism


Downtown Vicksburg is a hotbed for tourism and promotion for the local CVB.
While the travel decline related to the pandemic definitely impacted revenues for Tourism and Convention Centers in the state, things are looking up as more people have gotten vaccinated and are eager to travel.
“The pandemic has caused a 46 percent decline in our tax revenue,” said  
Webster Franklin, president & CEO, Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau (TCVB), which is funded by a 3 percent tax on hotel beds, and food and beverages in Tunica County. 
Their advertising message has changed during the pandemic, but not the target audience or advertising mediums. The advertising message during the pandemic focused heavily on their efforts to provide a safe environment to travelers.  The theme of their advertising campaign has been Tunica - Your Clean Getaway.   ....

CVBs making a comeback in Mississippi


Summer is almost upon us and that usually means travel and vacations. The hospitality and travel industry was hit hard by the pandemic, but three key visitors organizations in the state say they now see a light at the end of the tunnel. Among the state s convention and visitors bureaus eager to welcome visitors, Tupelo, Ridgeland and the Gulf Coast have their welcome mats firmly in place.
“Travel sentiment is up and hotel demand is coming back close to pre-pandemic levels, especially in terms of weekend leisure travel,” says Neal McCoy, executive director of the Tupelo Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We have new product that has opened since the pandemic began and new product that will open in 2021.” ....
